From Sketch to Steel: The R&D Process Behind Every Product
Innovation at Lingxi Sports starts not on the factory floor, but in a small, window-lit room where engineers sketch, 3D-print, and argue over handle angles.
The Design Philosophy
Every product we make answers three questions: Does it perform? Does it last? Does it feel right in the hand? Our design team — a mix of mechanical engineers and former athletes — brings real-world training experience to the drawing board.
Phase 1: Concept and Ergonomics
We start with clay models and ergonomic studies. The grip diameter of a dumbbell handle, the knurling pattern, the balance point — these are not arbitrary. We test 20+ handle profiles on a prototype grip station before finalizing a design.
Phase 2: CAD and Simulation
Using SolidWorks and ANSYS, our engineers run finite element analysis on every load-bearing component. We simulate 10 years of gym use in a weekend. Weak points are redesigned before a single gram of steel is cut.
Phase 3: 3D Printing and Rapid Prototyping
Before committing to expensive molds, we 3D-print full-scale models. Our team physically handles, drops, and tests every prototype. Feedback from this stage often leads to subtle but crucial refinements.
Phase 4: Tooling and Mold Making
Once the design is frozen, our in-house toolmakers craft the molds and jigs. Owning our mold shop means we can iterate in days, not months — and we control the quality from day one.
Phase 5: Pilot Run and Field Testing
Small-batch pilot runs go to a network of beta testers — CrossFit boxes, commercial gyms, and home athletes. Their feedback shapes the final production version. If a tester says the knurling is too aggressive, we adjust it.

Our R&D pipeline currently includes eco-friendly rubber compounds (50% recycled content), adjustable dumbbells with a faster weight-change mechanism, and a line of competition-grade kettlebells calibrated to IWF standards.
